November 9th
By: Colleen Hoover
To start, I would just like to say this book definitely lived up to the hype. I was sold on Colleen Hoover after It Ends With Us, (I have the sequel and will be starting that soon! EEK), but November 9th was addicting! I believe I finished this book the fastest out of all the others I have read thus far this year. The anticipation, the excitement….. the WAITING…. ugh, this book had me HOOKED from the beginning!
The idea of only meeting up with someone once a year, with limited contact in between, is just thrilling. There is so much unknown, so much that could be, and so much to be desired! Of course, this is all magnified when the person you plan to see only once a year is both charming and good-looking. SO many major life events can take place in the span of a year: finding a new job, moving to a new city, meeting new people, trying something new, chasing your goals... you name it. I am sure you know the old saying “distance makes the heart grow fonder”…. well, I have to say that in regards to this book, the old saying proved to be true.
Throughout the book, you see the main characters struggle with what their pact began as, and what it evolves into over time. As they both carry personal baggage and trauma, they must reconcile what is important, what is worth fighting for, and what is worth leaving in the past. They grow as individuals and learn just how complicated love can truly be. And in the midst of all the messy and complicated things life can throw in your face, they find each other in a way neither of them expected.
November 9th sheds light on the good and the bad of following your heart, chasing your dreams, and fighting for what you really want. It brings to life the butterflies of a new relationship, as well as the heartache that can accompany falling for someone new. It opens your eyes to the very real, very raw emotions that can be experienced by two people who are in the throws of both falling in love and losing each other at the same time. This book is more than tangible to anyone who has experienced a long-distance relationship or has had to overcome adversity in the face of finding their person.
This book was worth every penny and should be on your reading list if it is not already!
